Veterans Day

Thank you for your service!

This past Sunday was a special day in America.  Veterans Day, where we honor those who have served our country. Our remembrance of veterans started as Armistice Day.  This holiday helps us take some time and reflect upon the heroism of those who have served our country in our armed forces. The holiday fell on November 11 because it was the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice in 1918, ending World War I. The name of the holiday changed to “Veterans Day” in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to account for all veterans in all wars.

Many movies have also been made to honor our veterans. Some include American Sniper -(2014) which depicts how Navy S.E.A.L sniper, Chris Kyle, saves countless lives in battle and struggles with leaving the war behind. Lone Survivor – (2013) tells the story of how Marcus Luttrell, and his team, set out to capture the notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah in late June 2005. Flags of our Fathers – (2006) describes the life stories of the six men who raised the flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima, a turning point in World War II. As well as so many more.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say, we are very thankful for all the men and woman who have bravely served our country, so that we can have the freedoms we do in this country.
